Members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) at Grootfontein on Saturday night recovered a Toyota pickup vehicle that was reported missing from a residence at the town.

NamPol spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha in an interview with Nampa on Monday said three men aged 42, 43, and 48 have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The police officer explained that the suspects at an unknown time on Saturday night first poisoned a dog which was inside their targeted yard and thereafter entered the premises.

“In the yard, they successfully pushed outside the vehicle and mechanically ignited its engine before driving away,” said Mbeha.

Police informers planted in the same location allegedly had prior information of this planned theft, and on that same Saturday night, they assisted the police in intercepting the vehicle at a mobile roadblock which was erected after the theft.

Three suspects were also arrested in the process and are expected to appear in the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court during the week.

The old model vehicle is valued at N.dollars 50 000 and has been handed over to the owner, who reported it missing and positively identified it at the Grootfontein Police Station, Mbeha said.

Police investigations in the matter continue.
