Windhoek: The Swakop Uranium Foundation has generously provided approximately N$500,000 to enhance facilities at the Epako Old Age Home and the Light for the Children Kindergarten in Gobabis, marking a significant investment in community development.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the official handover event was attended by Omaheke Region Governor Pijoo Nganate, along with regional and local leaders, representatives of Swakop Uranium, trustees of the Swakop Uranium Foundation, and members of the beneficiary institutions. The upgrades at the Epako Old Age Home include a new television, kitchen equipment, pharmacy shelving, a laundry machine, and lounge furniture. Additionally, the facility received a fresh coat of paint both inside and out, and underwent fumigation to address pest issues.

The Light for the Children Kindergarten also benefited from the foundation's investment, receiving repainting and repairs to windows and doors, which are aimed at improving the educational environment for young learners. During the handover ceremony, Swakop Uranium Foundation Chairperson Percy McCallum emphasized the foundation's dedication to extending mining benefits beyond their operations, with a focus on creating lasting social impact.

Governor Nganate expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting its significance in improving the living conditions of the elderly at the Epako Old Age Home and enhancing the learning environment at the kindergarten. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, the private sector, and communities to promote sustainable development and improve service delivery.
