Oniihwa: A 19-year-old allegedly murdered both his grandparents at Oniihwa village in the Oshikoto Region on Monday. The victims of the double murder are 68-year-old Martha Nangombe and her husband, 87-year-old Josua Shiimi.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo, it is alleged that the suspect, who resided in the same house as the deceased, left for the nearby cucashops around 08h00 and returned home around 11h00.
'He found his grandfather at home while his grandmother and a domestic worker were busy in the omahangu field. When they returned, the suspect grabbed the domestic worker by the neck and threatened to kill her with the knife he was holding,' Ekandjo said.
The woman managed to break free and ran to the nearest house, but did not report what happened to her. 'It is alleged that the suspect slaughtered one chicken and turned on his grandparents. It is suspected that he used an axe, spear, knobkieries and a knife to kill them. He then left home and went back to the cucashops,' Ekandjo said.
The gruesome scene was discovered later in the day by an eight-year-old grandchild who came home from school. 'She found her grandparents' lifeless bodies lying in a pool of blood and ran to the same house as the domestic worker and reported the matter - they alerted the police,' said Ekandjo.
The bodies of the two deceased were found with multiple wounds on their heads, faces, arms and hands. The suspect is set to appear before the Ondangwa Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. Investigations continue.
