Nkurenkuru: The body of 17-year-old Epafras Musese Hasindi, a student at Nkurenkuru Combined School, was recovered today from the Kavango River at Kahenge after reportedly jumping into the river at Kafuma Village on Saturday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga confirmed the discovery of Hasindi's body, which was found at around 10h30. It is reported that the deceased jumped from a platform at the river in Kafuma Village under unknown circumstances and subsequently drowned.
The police were initially alerted to the incident by the local community and confirmed the details on site with information provided by Hasindi's schoolmates, who were present at the time of the incident. Muronga noted that a search operation had been underway since the incident occurred, involving the Police Water Wing Unit and some of Hasindi's family members.
The next of kin have been informed of the recovery, and the body has been transported to the Nkurenkuru police mortuary. An autopsy is pending as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.
