Monterrey: Diego Lainez and Joaquim Henrique scored second-half goals as 10-man Tigres UANL underlined their title credentials with a 2-1 home victory over Cruz Azul in the Liga MX. The hosts took the lead when Lainez rifled a long-range effort into the bottom-right corner after Romulo Zwarg’s pass. Henrique made it 2-0 by bundling home from close range following Ozziel Herrera’s corner.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Tigres suffered a blow in the 65th minute as Nicolas Ibanez was shown a straight red card for a bad tackle on Kevin Mier. Despite being a man down, Tigres managed to hold their ground until Ignacio Rivero pulled a goal back with a 98th-minute strike. However, it was too little too late as Tigres recorded its fifth win of the campaign.

The victory leaves the Nuevo Leon outfit second in the 18-team Liga MX standings, trailing leaders America on goal difference.
