Windhoek: Minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Emma Theofelus, has cautioned Namibians to be vigilant and avoid circulating deep fake videos and images that spread disinformation. This follows the circulation of an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated video labelled 'Government Investment Platform Guarantees Income of N.dollars 35 000 per week.'

According to Namibia Press Agency, the misleading videos feature herself, Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Natangue Ithete. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Theofelus emphasized that the Government of the Republic of Namibia does not endorse such platforms or schemes, noting that the videos in circulation are AI-generated and carry false messages.

She urged the public to verify the credibility of information by contacting relevant offices directly or by visiting official social media platforms of government ministries and agencies before taking action.
