Three young women raped

A 21-year-old man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly raping a female friend after they drank alcohol together at Jabulani in Mondesa, Swakopmund.

A weekend crime report issued on Monday by Namibian Police Force spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, said the incident occurred around midnight on Friday, when the woman, 31, felt tired and went to sleep. She woke up while the suspect was allegedly raping her.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court this week.

In a separate incident, an 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 28-year-old man on Friday around 22h00 at Soek & Kry location in Keetmanshoop.

It is alleged that the man invited the girl to his residence for a braai during which alcohol was consumed. Later on, when his other guests left, he locked the girl in a room and sexually assaulted her. She later escaped through a toilet window.

The suspect, who is said to be employed as a security officer. was arrested and is set to appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court this week.

Another teenage girl, aged 15, is also reported to have been raped by a 19-year-old man on Saturday around 16h00 at Oshetu No. 2 location in Okahandja.

It is alleged that the victim was on her way to visit a friend when the suspect met her in the street, grabbed her forcefully and took her to a nearby house of his friend and had sexual intercourse with her forcefully. The suspect is yet to be arrested.

Police investigations continue in all matters.
