Tourists robbed at gunpoint while camping

Several tourists, who were camped at the Tiger Reef Campsite in Swakopmund, were on Wednesday robbed of their belongings.

The Namibian Police Force’s Erongo Community Affairs Commander, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, in a crime report issued on Monday said one of the tourists, a Swiss national, was robbed at gunpoint at around 19h00, with the assailants taking off with a laptop, wallet, smartphone, bag of clothes, 2 cameras, sunglasses as well as cash (US.dollars 300) and car keys.

The stolen items are valued at N.dollars 55 148.

Another tourist, a South African national, lost belongings worth N.dollars 80 000 after the suspects allegedly broke into their caravan at the same camping site and stole several items.

The incident, which occurred a few minutes before the previous incident, resulted in the tourist losing a handbag, a purse, a PlayStation console, a camera, a perfume bottle, an ice maker, as well as clothes.

No suspect has been arrested in connection to both robberies and no items have been recovered.

Police investigations continue.
