Oshikoto: Three children died after they were struck by lightning at Oshongwe village in the Oshikoto Region on Sunday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the region’s crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo, stated that the incident occurred around 18h00. The deceased have been identified as 16-year-old Peneyambeko Halenge, Laimi Lomboleni, also 16, and 12-year-old Natanael Paulus.
The tragic event unfolded as the children, part of a group that included boys and two girls, ventured out to collect cattle. As they were returning home, a sudden downpour forced them to seek shelter under a tree, where they were fatally struck by lightning.
Ekandjo further reported that four boys who survived the strike managed to return home and alert their families about the incident. The police were subsequently informed and responded promptly. The survivors were transported to Oshivelo Health Clinic to receive medical care.
The remains of the deceased were taken to the Omuthiya police mortuary
, and their families have been notified of the tragic loss.
