Transport companies were urged to cease the movement of trucks on Saturday on the Trans-Kalahari Corridor that links the port of Walvis Bay to Gaborone, due to the 24-hour operation’s launch of the Trans-Kalahari/Mamuno border posts.
This was announced in a public notice issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Executive Director Etienne Maritz on Tuesday.
“Due to the launch of the 24-hour operation at these two border posts, transport companies are urged to temporarily cease the movement of trucks from 08h00 until 13h00. Alternatively, truck drivers are advised to use Ariamsvlei Border Post,” it said.
The Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Albert Kawana alongside Minister of Finance of the Republic of Botswana Peggy Serame will launch the 24-hour operation of the Trans-Kalahari/Mamuno border posts.
This comes after Namibia and Botswana introduced the national identity (ID) card as a travel document for cross-border movement on 24 February 2023.
