Two brothers denied bail over human trafficking at Nepara

Two brothers were denied bail when they made a brief appearance in the Kahenge Magistrate’s Court in the Kavango West Region on Tuesday on charges of human trafficking.

Vaatakana Tjindunda, 45, and 63-year-old Tjipirandi Tjindunda were also charged with contravening the Labour Act by allegedly trafficking and employing two children under the age of 15 years, in addition to exposing them to an inhumane environment.

The two men appeared before Magistrate Barry Mufana and their case was postponed to 13 June 2022.

According to court documents availed to Nampa, the accused allegedly took the two children from the Kunene Region with the purpose of taking them to the Omusati Region, but instead, the children ended up at Nepara village, where they were tasked with looking after livestock. They were reportedly also not given any shelter.

The two children were taken by the police and placed in a safe house in the Kavango East Region.
