Otjozondjupa: Two adult male pedestrians lost their lives in separate accidents on the Otavi-Otjiwarongo B1 road in the Otjozondjupa Region on Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the head of community affairs for the Namibian Police Force in the region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, provided details in a media statement on Thursday, noting that the identities of the deceased have not been confirmed. In response to the incidents, culpable homicide dockets have been opened at both the Otjiwarongo and Otavi police stations.
On Wednesday night, around 21:50, a pedestrian was allegedly struck and killed instantly at a location approximately 56 kilometers south of Otavi on the B1 road. The male driver of a Toyota Hilux suspected in the incident was detained for questioning.
A similar fatal accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, where another pedestrian was reportedly hit and killed by an unidentified vehicle about 27 kilometers north of Otjiwarongo on the same road.
The Otjozondjupa police are urging anyone with missing male relatives in the area between Otavi and Otjiwarongo to visit their nearest police station to help identify the deceased individuals. Authorities have also called on road users to exercise caution to prevent further accidents.
Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
