Cadiz City: Two suspected rebels were killed in a clash with government troops in Negros Occidental province in central Philippines, the Philippine armed forces said Monday. In a report, the military detailed that the two New People's Army (NPA) rebels were slain during a gunfight in Cadiz City on Saturday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, troops recovered weapons and ammunition at the encounter site, noting that no soldier was killed or wounded in the fighting. The NPA rebels have been engaged in a conflict with government forces since 1969.

Military data indicated that the NPA's personnel strength has significantly declined from its peak of around 25,000 armed members in the 1980s. Despite the reduction in numbers, the NPA continues to conduct small-scale attacks in rural areas.
