Minneapolis: Federal prosecutors are investigating Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for allegedly obstructing federal law enforcement operations in the state,
According to Namibia Press Agency, The investigation focuses on the rhetoric used by the two officials against the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which has been deemed close to a potential federal offense. U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the actions of the governor and mayor, particularly encouraging citizens to call 911 upon sighting ICE officers, are approaching the threshold of a federal crime.
The probe arises amid heightened tensions following a federal immigration crackdown in Minnesota. On January 7, ICE agent Jonathan Ross fatally shot Renee Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, during an enforcement operation in Minneapolis. This incident has led to nationwide protests, with Frey and Walz urging ICE to cease its operations in Minneapolis and St. Paul, where around 2,500 arrests have been made as of Friday.
