Sesfontein: The United Democratic Front (UDF) has solidified its reign in the Sesfontein constituency following a victory in Tuesday's by-election. UDF romped to victory with their candidate Bernadus //Hoeb amassing 1,368 votes, a slight margin over their closest rival, Swapo's candidate Titus Rungondo, who garnered 1,192 votes. Bennie Ganuseb of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) garnered 585 votes while Popular Democratic Movement's (PDM) Vemuii Kaisuma received 162 votes.
According to Namibia Press Agency, //Hoeb, a former member of the constituency himself, will now replace Hedrick Gaobaeb, who resigned to take up a seat in the national assembly on the UDF ticket. Electoral Commission of Namibia election officer for the Kunene Region, Mike Nganjone revealed the results to Nampa at the Sesfontein constituency office on Wednesday.
Nganjone said the commission concluded the electoral process on Wednesday morning, adding that it was a smooth process despite some polling teams travelling long distances to hard-to-reach areas. "We had a smooth process without issues. Despite having some teams that were struggling with the road network, we managed to count all votes by 08h00," he said.
