Windhoek: Former Ugandan State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem, along with a delegation of Ugandan investors, visited President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to explore potential investment opportunities and enhance economic cooperation between Uganda and Namibia.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Oryem expressed that the visit was part of an initiative to encourage successful African investors to explore and invest in Namibia, reflecting a commitment to Pan-Africanism. The delegation, as led by Oryem, included investors interested in sectors such as energy, agriculture, youth empowerment, information and communication technology, and security.

Oryem emphasized Uganda's historical support for Namibia during its liberation struggles and highlighted the current desire to contribute to Namibia's development and transformation. He stressed the importance of ensuring that Namibians benefit from the experiences and opportunities of countries that gained independence earlier. The delegation focused on identifying investment opportunities that could generate employment, increase tax revenue, and retain investment benefits within Namibia.

Additionally, Oryem, who served as Uganda's foreign affairs minister from 2004 until May 2026, underscored the necessity of strengthening intra-African trade by addressing barriers to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He advocated for collaboration between the East African Community and the Southern African Development Community to facilitate the movement of goods, services, and investment across regional economic blocs.

The delegation expressed optimism in President Nandi-Ndaitwah's vision for Namibia and hoped that Ugandan investors could play a role in promoting industrialization and creating opportunities for indigenous Namibians.
