Windhoek: A male trainee at the Windhoek Vocational Training Centre allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at a village near the Okamatapati settlement in the Otjozondjupa Region. The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Zenotjiuonga Tjatjitua from Otjijere village situated a few kilometres from Okamatapati settlement.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force's Head of Community Affairs in the region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, stated on Tuesday that an inquest docket was opened at the Okamatapati Police Station in connection with the matter. 'The incident from Otjijere village was reported to us at about 19h30 on Monday,' she said.
Tjatjitua had been visiting his uncle since last Friday. Mbeha mentioned that he had not complained of anything or showed any signs of distress. He completed his daily chores as usual on Monday afternoon. Around 17h00, he left the house and went into the nearby bushes. When he did not return for an unusually long time, his uncle followed his shoeprints and discovered his body hanging from a tree with a rope around his neck.
The Okamatapati Police Station was alerted. No suicide note was found, and no foul play is suspected. Police investigations into the matter continue.
