Otjiwarongo: The voting process in the Otjiwarongo and Grootfontein constituencies by-elections started smoothly on Tuesday morning with no technical hiccups or challenges.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN)'s Otjozondjupa Regional Electoral Officer, Victoria Amutenya, stated in a telephonic interview that the voting exercise in the two constituencies began on time at 07h00. She noted that queues were impressive, with people arriving early at the 37 polling stations in Grootfontein and also in Otjiwarongo, where moderate queues were observed.
Amutenya provided details about the polling infrastructure, explaining that Otjiwarongo has a total of 38 polling stations, comprising 31 fixed and seven mobile stations, while Grootfontein has 38 stations in total, with 25 fixed and 12 mobile. She assured that the polling stations are well-prepared, equipped with ECN materials, and have sufficient manpower to accommodate all eligible voters in both constituencies.
Amutenya also highlighted the number of eligible voters, with Otjiwarongo having 27,870 and Grootfontein having 18,231. All polling stations are scheduled to close at 21h00 on Tuesday.
