The Municipality of Walvis Bay has cautioned residents with unapproved and unauthorised structured on municipal-owned land to remove them before 31 March or risk conviction.

The Minicipality’s Chief Executive Officer, Muronga Haingura, in a public notice issued on Friday stressed that if the unauthorised land use is not stopped or the illegal structures are not removed by the given date, residents will be found guilty of the offense and on conviction be liable to a fine and/or imprisonment in accordance with section 51.

“This notice is served in terms of Section 51(2)(a)(i) of the Local Authorities Act, 1992 (Act no. 23 of 1992) as amended and Clause 5.2 of the Walvis Bay Town Planning Scheme,” the CEO noted.

He further cautioned residents that paying a fine or being convicted does not mean that the illegal structures and activities will remain.

“The Municipality of Walvis Bay will take all required measures to ensure that illegal land uses comes to an end and illegal structures are removed from council-owned land and all portions of land reserved for streets, public open spaces and municipal purposes.”
