Windhoek: The individual initially identified as an eyewitness in the suspected murder of 21-year-old Linda Goases, Cornelius Afrikaner, has been reclassified as a suspect. Goases was believed to have been with the 26-year-old Afrikaner in the early hours of Saturday when they were allegedly ambushed by three unknown men near the Havana dump site in Windhoek, resulting in a stabbing that caused her death.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Namibian Police Force Chief Inspector Silas Shipandeni from the Khomas Region Community Affairs department confirmed to Nampa on Tuesday that police investigations led to Afrikaner's change in status from eyewitness to suspect, prompting his arrest.
'What I can confirm to you is that after that incident, the matter was reported to us by the possible eyewitness, the boyfriend. We did our investigation, of which the alleged eyewitness was interviewed and intensively interrogated. The investigation has led to him being linked to a crime act and he was arrested,' Shipandeni stated.
Afrikaner made his first appearance in the Katutura Magistrate's Court on Monday, where he was denied bail. Police investigations continue.
