Women in Uniform Commemorate International Women’s Day at Grootfontein

Grootfontein: The women in uniform at Lieutenant General Dimo Hamaambo Garrison in Grootfontein commemorated International Women’s Day on Friday in the Otjozondjupa Region. The day, observed yearly on 08 March, was themed ‘Accelerate Action’ and highlighted the urgent need to address gender imbalances and combat women abuse in both their personal and professional lives.



According to Namibia Press Agency, Brigadier General Andreas Diyeve Diyeve, who is the Deputy Army Commander, spoke at the event on Friday. He accentuated the importance of International Women’s Day, stating that the day serves as a reminder of women’s determination to break the chains of gender imbalance. “This year’s theme reflects the ongoing struggle for equality, empowerment, and the advancement of women’s rights,” said Diyeve.



He also reaffirmed the Namibian Defence Force’s commitment to gender equality, recognizing the ambitions of female soldiers and responding positively to the call of duty, irrespective of its nature or deployment. “This will ensure that the leadership recognize their strength and determination to ascend to the command role within the NDF,” Diyeve stated.



The event brought together soldiers from the army headquarters and co-located formations and units, who celebrated the day with poetry recitals, speeches, and cultural performances. Furthermore, the commemoration highlighted the aspirations of women in uniform to challenge gender stereotypes and advocate for equal opportunities within the NDF.



All the NDF formations and units countrywide celebrated International Women’s Day and reaffirmed the army’s commitment to empowering women within the military and society.
