Xi Jinping Delivers Keynote Address at Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing

Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women. The event, held in Beijing, marks the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women. President Xi highlighted the importance of advancing the cause of women globally and urged international cooperation to address ongoing challenges in gender equality.

According to Namibia Press Agency, President Xi emphasized the significant progress made over the past 30 years since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. He noted that gender equality has become a universal consensus and a priority in the United Nations development agenda. More than 190 countries have enacted laws to protect women's rights, and significant progress has been achieved in women's empowerment across various sectors.

President Xi pointed out that despite the advancements, over 600 million women and girls are still affected by war and conflict, with around 10 percent living in extreme poverty. He proposed four key actions to accelerate women's development: fostering an enabling environment for growth, promoting high-quality development, developing governance frameworks to protect rights, and enhancing global cooperation.

In China, President Xi highlighted the achievements in women's development, including significant reductions in poverty and maternal mortality. Chinese women have become integral to the nation's economic and social development, contributing significantly in various fields. China continues to support global women's causes through initiatives such as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations and partnerships with UNESCO.

President Xi announced that China will donate $10 million to U.N. Women over the next five years and allocate $100 million in its Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund for women's projects. Additionally, China plans to launch 1,000 livelihood programs and establish a Global Center for Women's Capacity Building to train female talent and foster international cooperation.

President Xi concluded by urging global leaders to carry forward the spirit of the Beijing World Conference on Women and work towards a shared future for humanity, highlighting the importance of steadfast dedication to achieving gender equality.
