It’s all systems go for ‘The Young shall grow Boxing Championship’ slated for Oshakati Independence Stadium in the Oshana Region on Saturday.

The event is organised by the Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) Kilimanjaro Boxing Club (KBC).

Speaking to Nampa on Thursday, chairperson of the boxing stable, Joseph Bernhard said there will be fireworks at the championship which is expected to attract over 46 boxers from different northern regions.

“Our aim remains the same; to develop boxers as well as to help them qualify for future boxing tournaments and prepare them accordingly for when they turn professional,” he said.

He added that the Saturday fighting card is divided into two parts, with the junior category bouts contributing eight of the 23 fights scheduled for the day, while the remaining 15 bouts will come from the seniors.

Bernhard also stated that the championship is special because the senior boxers partaking in this event are expected to turn professional, while the juniors will be recognised for future tournaments.

“We are grateful to our main sponsor MTC for their unwavering support and investing heavily in boxing,” he said.
