The Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service says it is ready to accelerate the implementation of the third version of the National Youth Policy (NYP).

The third version of the NYP was launched on 21 July 2021 under the theme ‘Mainstreaming Youth Development into the National Agenda,’ with the aim of integrating youth development programming for various ministries and agencies, development partners, as well as the private sector.

Speaking at an induction workshop of the NYP implementation steering committee at Rundu on Tuesday, Sport, Youth and National Service Deputy Minister, Emma Kantema-Gaomas said the policy makes provision for a technical committee to be established, comprising of key offices/ministries and agencies, as identified.

The technical committee will spearhead the policy’s implementation and report on the progress made.

The policy, she said, also apportioned responsibilities to the ministry of sport to coordinate the establishment of this technical committee and to coordinate the implementation of the policy. At the same time, the National Youth Council is the implementing arm of the third NYP.

“It provides for a process of deciding what should be achieved and how to achieve these actions efficiently and economically, as well as the apportioning of responsibilities,” Kantema-Gaomas said.

United Nations Resident Coordinator, Sen Pang, said the initiative is centred on designing and scaling up new ways to ensure that every young person is in school learning, training or employed by 2030.

The workshop ends on Friday.
