Keetmanshoop: The Zambezi Region's Under-20 football and netball teams paid a courtesy call on Regional Governor Dorothy Kabula on Monday, before their departure for the upcoming Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup in the //Kharas Region.According to Namibia Press Agency, the 24th edition of the tournament is set to take place in Keetmanshoop from 03 to 06 April. For the Zambezi football side, the competition represents an opportunity to reclaim the glory of 2022 and improve on recent performances. Football head coach Lennox Kanyehu expressed confidence that his squad is prepared to build on their 2025 performance, which saw them reach the quarterfinals after disappointing group-stage exits in 2023 and 2024.'We were champions in 2022, but we struggled in 2023 and 2024 when we failed to progress beyond the group stages. However, in 2025, we showed our potential by reaching the quarterfinals, and we are taking that same zeal to Keetmanshoop,' Kanyehu told Nampa. The coach has selected a 20-member squad largely c omposed of emerging talent from the regional second-division league. The roster features 13 newcomers alongside seven returning players from the 2025 campaign. He said having won the cup before, the team remains hungry to experience that success once again.Meanwhile, netball coach Uutoni Vilho has finalized a 12-member squad. Vilho reported that preparations have been rigorous, with the athletes benefiting from several weeks of intensive training in camp. 'The players have trained hard and are well prepared. We are aiming for a strong performance,' he said.Kabula urged the teams to remain disciplined and represent the region with pride. 'Do not fight, maintain discipline and respect others. You are not going there to drink beer, but to compete in sport and make this region proud,' she said. In the football competition, Zambezi is drawn in Group D alongside defending champions Kunene and Omusati. The netball team is in Group A with Kunene, Erongo, Ohangwena, Hardap, and Omusati. Trivista Medical Centre has sponsored first aid kits for the teams.
