Kalkfeld: A 40-year-old Zimbabwean national died instantly on Thursday night after a vehicle he was driving reportedly collided head-on with a Toyota Hilux outside Kalkfeld settlement in the Otjozondjupa Region. Namibian Police Force (NamPol) head of community affairs in the region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, confirmed the incident on Friday, saying it occurred approximately four kilometres north of Kalkfeld at about 21h45. The deceased was identified by a close relative as Shadrek Nyaungwa, who has been residing at Otjiwarongo.

According to Namibia Press Agency, preliminary police investigations indicate that a male driver of a white Toyota Hilux double cab travelling from the direction of Otjiwarongo towards Kalkfeld allegedly veered to the right side of the road and collided with a white Hyundai ix35, which was headed in the opposite direction. "The collision took place on the right shoulder of the road as both drivers had pulled off the road in the same direction and collided head-on, resulting in the driver of the Hyundai succumbing to the severe impact at the scene," said Mbeha.

Both vehicles had four occupants, many of whom sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital for medical attention, said Mbeha. Police investigations into the matter continue.
