Windhoek: Debmarine Premier League log leaders African Stars FC extended their lead to 50 points after defeating FC Ongos at the Independence Stadium on Saturday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the match started intensely with both teams looking to take control of the ball, searching for the opening goal. It was, however, the league leaders who took the lead after Mbakondja Tjahikika scored through a powerful shot from long range just after fourteen minutes.

As the match progressed, both teams missed a few chances with Willy Stephanus coming close twice. While Ongos duo Simon Elago and captain Wangu Gome rallied their team with relentless attacks, the first half ended 1-0.

The second half began calmly until both teams created a few chances minutes in. African Stars had the habit of shooting from long range with three players attempting shots from outside the box. Despite trailing, Ongos kept pushing, but fast-forward, African Stars star Stephanus scored a wonderful goal after a thunderous shot from long range, sealing a 2-0 victory for Bob Mafoso's side.

In a post-match interview with Nampa, head coach Mafoso expressed delight with his team's performance after a disappointing result from their last fixture. "Very happy after a horrible weekend last weekend. It's a weekend that we want to forget. I think we came back better," Mafoso said, reflecting on the 2-0 loss against KK Palace.

"It's one of the teams that we were able to watch before playing against, so it made things a bit easier in terms of preparations. At least we were preparing against something that we knew. We had to watch them last week after our loss here," Mafoso explained. African Stars face Tigers Football Club on Sunday.
