Okahandja: A 20-year-old male Angolan national allegedly drowned on Tuesday morning while fishing in the Swakop Port Dam at Okahandja.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)'s head of community affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, informed that the deceased was identified the same day by his close relatives as Manuel Nghileo Tuhungilwa. "Tuhungilwa was allegedly seen fishing in the dam, and while fishing he reportedly fell into the water and never came out," Mbeha stated.

The search for Tuhungilwa by NamPol's divers' reserve force began shortly after 09h00 on Tuesday, but no trace of him was found in the dam, Mbeha said. A team of NamPol divers is set to resume the search for his body on Wednesday morning, she added.

Mbeha urged residents of Okahandja to refrain from illegal fishing activities at the town's dams. Police investigations into the drowning incident are ongoing.
