Walvis bay: Beki-Kumata Fishing (Pty) Ltd, on Tuesday donated N. dollars 500 000 among three beneficiaries under the theme 'Security for Longevity' as part of its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme. The beneficiaries included Cocoma Primary School, which received N. dollars 380 000, SOS Children's Villages Namibia, which received N. dollars 20 000, and Project Never Walk Alone, which received N.dollars 100 000.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Beki-Kumata Board Chairperson Shiwana Ndeunyema emphasized that corporate social responsibility should not be determined by a company's profitability. "At Beki-Kumata Fishing, we believe that corporate social responsibility is not something a company does when profits are high. It is not something we do for applause. It is a civic duty, a moral duty and a national duty," he said.
Ndeunyema further highlighted the company's responsibility to give back to the community, whether it's big or small. "The fact that a company is operating, generating revenue, using national resources and participating in the economy means that it carries a responsibility to give something back. A school uniform, shoes and a safe place for a child to sleep matter," he said.
SOS Children's Villages Namibia Director for Fund Development and Communications, Sylvia Shimaneni, expressed gratitude to the fishing company for its contribution and commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children. "Your support goes beyond a monetary donation. It is an investment in opportunity and a brighter future for children and families who need it the most," Shimaneni said.
Receiving the donation on behalf of Cocoma Primary School, Deputy Executive Director in the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC) Knox Otto Imbuwa, expressed humility and gratitude for the contribution. "Your generosity has strengthened our school community, particularly that of Cocoma, and restored the dignity of our learners," he said.
Project Never Walk Alone spokesperson Nangula Mbako also appreciated the donation, stating that the contribution would assist the organisation in continuing its support programmes for vulnerable children.
