Katima Mulilo: The Zambezi Regional Football League season finale is near at hand with the title race now narrowed to a two-horse race between Black Hawks and Bush Bucks. With four games remaining before the 2024/2025 season concludes, Black Hawks leads the pack with 44 points, one more point above Bush Bucks in second place.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Hawks missed out on a chance to extend their lead at the top following their 2-1 loss to Bush Bucks last weekend, but managed to defeat Imore FC with a narrow 1-0 victory, remaining at the top. Hawks will take on Bright Stars on Saturday in a must-win encounter to bolster their title aspirations, before hosting Sahara FC, a team looking to bounce back from a series of poor results.
Hawks coach Hartley Tiyebulyo emphasized the importance of maximizing points as the title hangs in the balance. "We are prepared for the title-deciding games, no more slip-ups in the last four games. We need to win all our remaining games and maintain the top spot," he stated.
Despite the pressure from Bush Bucks, Tiyebulyo remains confident in his team's fitness and dedication, emphasizing the necessity of a must-win mentality for each game.
Bush Bucks, on the other hand, are gearing up for a challenging match against the in-form, third-placed Blue Chiefs on Saturday at Katima Mulilo Sports Complex. A win is crucial for Bucks to apply pressure on Hawks and keep the title race alive.
Lisao Limbo, coach of Bucks, reflected on the narrowing of the title chase to two teams and expressed determination not to relent. Bucks have significantly reduced the seven-point gap on Hawks, and Limbo is hopeful that any mistakes by the leaders will give Bucks an opportunity to claim the top spot and eventually the title.
"It was a marathon, now it's between us and the Black Hawks. We cannot afford to drop points, and should our rival slip up, we will advance to the top. If we put our heads into this, we can take this to the final game," he expressed.
Other weekend matches include Oryza Sativa vs Imore, Space Age vs Namib Chiefs on Saturday, and Namib Chiefs vs Rocano King Rangers, Space Age vs Oryza Sativa, and Black Buffaloes vs Imore on Sunday.
