Khaibasen FC Targets Kunene Football League Title Amid Tough Competition

Outjo: Outjo-based outfit Khaibasen Football Club sits at the summit of the Kunene Second Division Football League with only four games left in the season. They are now focused on securing maximum points in their remaining matches to clinch the title.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Khaibasen will approach the weekend fixtures with the home advantage as they face two strong opponents determined to disrupt their title ambitions. They host the rejuvenated !Ugab at the Etoshapoort Stadium on Saturday before settling matters with Sixty Eleven on Sunday.

Khaibasen needs to collect all six points from these fixtures to strengthen their title bid and extend their lead at the top of the standings. They currently lead the table with forty-two points, closely followed by Kunene Nampol on forty-one points. Robber Chanties occupy third place with thirty-seven points, while Okarindi Komutati remain in title contention with thirty-five points.

In an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, Khaibasen coach Robert Gurirab said that despite facing fierce competition for the title, the team is confident that victory is within reach. "All the remaining games are crucial for the top four teams. As for Khaibasen, we cannot afford any errors. We have to be vigilant and protect our spot at the top of the standings. However, we are confident that we can win this league," he said.

Gurirab stated that he has a confident squad willing to fight tirelessly until the last game, with a winning mentality geared towards achieving the team's goal. He also acknowledged the fierce competition in the league, emphasising that each game is critical as all teams are fighting for maximum points in their quest to finish at the top.

In second place, Kunene Nampol will play at home in Opuwo as they host Green Dangers and Etosha United, aiming to secure six points and apply pressure on Khaibasen. Robber Chanties will travel to Opuwo to face Okarindi Komutati in a fierce title-chase clash on Saturday before taking on the relentless Epupa Zebra Stars on Sunday.

Before hosting Robber Chanties at Newman Katuta Stadium, Okarindi Komutati will first complete their previously abandoned match against Green Dangers on Thursday. They will then face Grootberg United in Opuwo on Sunday. Other weekend fixtures will see Golden Wolves taking on Etosha United on Saturday, while Epupa Zebra Stars will go head-to-head with Grootberg United. Young Eagles will also be in action on Saturday as they face Sixty Eleven. On Sunday, Golden Wolves will return to the pitch to take on Green Dangers, while Young Eagles will battle it out against !Ugab.
