Rio de janeiro: Botafogo defender Bastos is set to miss the rest of the 2025 Brazilian top flight season due to complications from a knee injury.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the 34-year-old Angolan underwent surgery on his left knee in July in the hope that he would resume training in October. However, the center-back has yet to rejoin first-team training after aggravating the injury during his recuperation, Globo Esporte reported.
Bastos, who has been capped 58 times for Angola, has made 60 appearances across all competitions for Botafogo since his 2023 move from Al-Ahli. He was part of the Rio club's squad that won last year's Copa Libertadores - South America's top club trophy - and Brazilian Serie A title.
Botafogo is currently fourth in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings with 43 points from 27 games, trailing 12 points behind leaders Palmeiras.
