Cabinet approves decentralisation of certain MLIREC functions to regional councils

Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Peya Mushelenga on Thursday said Cabinet has approved the decentralisation of certain functions of the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation to all regional councils countrywide.

Mushelenga said this while delivering Cabinet resolutions from the eighth Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.

The ICT minister added that this decision follows a submission to Cabinet by the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni.

He further announced that Cabinet also granted approval to the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs to table the convention on the prohibition of development, production and stockpiling of bacteriological and toxin weapons and their destruction, in the National Assembly. Similarly this follows a submission by the Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Frans Kapofi.

Cabinet further took note of the 2018/19 and 2019/20 annual report of the procurement policy unit and authorised the tabling of the report in the National Assembly.

Furthermore, Mushelenga said, Cabinet considered the petition by the Mayeyi Traditional Authority in the Zambezi Region regarding the border issues between Botswana and Namibia, as well as concerns raised by the Impalila Island community submitted by Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila.

According to Mushelenga, Cabinet considered the petition and directed the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, Calle Schlettwein and Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration, Safety and Security, Albert Kawana to prepare a media statement on the border treaty signed by Namibia and Botswana on Thursday.
