Beijing: China firmly opposes the U.S. unilateral sanctions against Cuba and interference in Cuba's internal affairs under the guise of "human rights", a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said Tuesday. China calls on the United States to lift its blockade and sanctions against Cuba immediately, the spokesperson added.

According to Namibia Press Agency, spokesperson Lin Jian made these remarks during a regular press briefing, addressing a query about the U.S. sanctions imposed on senior Cuban officials. Lin highlighted that the United States has maintained a comprehensive blockade and imposed illegal sanctions on Cuba for over 60 years, which has caused significant suffering to the Cuban people. He emphasized that these sanctions should be lifted immediately rather than intensified.

Lin reiterated China's strong support for Cuba, advocating for Cuba's right to choose a development path that aligns with its national conditions and to safeguard its sovereignty and dignity. He urged the United States to remove Cuba from the list of 'state sponsors of terrorism' and to lift the blockade and sanctions without delay.

Lin further stated that if the United States genuinely cared about human rights, it should reflect on its own record of human rights violations in Guantanamo, Cuba, and globally over the years.
