Nairobi:Colombia's Foreign Ministry announced the formal cessation of diplomatic relations with Iran, effective September 19.

According to Namibia Press Agency, this decision is rooted in Colombia's foreign policy principles, focusing on national and regional security, as well as combating transnational crime. The ministry cited alleged connections between the Iranian government and international terrorist groups, along with other "narco-terrorist" organizations deemed threats to Colombia's security.

The ministry's statement also highlighted that these developments have diminished Colombia's trust in the Iranian government. Despite the diplomatic severance, consular relations will remain intact, in line with the Vienna conventions on diplomatic and consular relations.
