Nkurenkuru: Commissioner Andreas Nelumbu on Friday officially took over as Kavango West Regional Commander at Nkurenkuru, pledging disciplined conduct, intensive road safety campaigns, and close cooperation with communities and neighbors to curb crime. He replaces Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, who now leads the Zambezi Region.

According to Namibia Press Agency, presiding over the handover, Deputy Inspector-General for Operations, Major-General Elias Mutota, emphasized the responsibilities that come with the new role. Mutota stated, "As you assume command today, you inherit not only the authority vested in this office but also the responsibility of safeguarding the lives and property of the people entrusted under your care." He urged Nelumbu to lead with principles of collaboration, partnership, fairness, decisiveness, and compassion, fostering unity and discipline within the force.

Mutota also advised Nelumbu to embark on intensive road safety campaigns targeting pedestrians with the aim of positively influencing their attitudes toward safe road use.

In his remarks, Nelumbu called for total commitment from officers across all levels by dedicating and committing their time, energy, and focus to the policing service delivery for the nation. He highlighted that conduct, both on and off duty, reflects on the uniform, reminding officers of their responsibilities at all times.

Nelumbu further pledged to work collaboratively with political leaders, traditional authorities, churches, schools, and security clusters, engaging with neighboring regions such as Kavango East and others. He expressed a commitment to enhancing efforts to eradicate cross-border crime.

Nelumbu noted that although crime in the region is not high, there is a need to ensure its reduction to attract investors.
