COVID-19: Namibia records 113 new cases, two deaths

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced that Namibia on Monday recorded 113 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths bringing the total deaths to 3 414 in the country.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update on Tuesday, said the newly confirmed cases are part of 1 139 samples tested at various laboratories around the country, representing a 9.9 per cent positivity ratio.

The gender distribution is 65 female and 48 male patients, ranging between one and 94 years.

Ohangwena recorded the highest number of positive cases at 59 followed by Kunene with 13 cases, Omusati 12, Kavango West 10, Oshikoto six, Oshana five, Otjozondjupa three, Erongo two, Zambezi one, Khomas one and ||Kharas also with one case.

Shangula said of the new reported cases, 58 are learners of which 10 are from Abraham Iyambo Secondary School in Eenhana district, 10 from Otjikondo Primary School in Outjo district, five from Kanuni Haruwodi Combined School in Nkurenkuru district and the rest are from different schools mainly scattered around Ohangwena Region.

“Four teachers, two students and two healthcare workers are among the confirmed cases. Four of the confirmed cases have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and one received two doses,” said Shangula.

Namibia currently has 1 535 active cases, of which 170 are hospitalised and 23 in intensive care.

Furthermore, 882 new recoveries were announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 120 812.

A cumulative number of 221 450 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by 06 September 2021, while 127 673 had received their full doses.
