COVID-19: Namibia records 25 new cases

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced that Namibia on Sunday recorded 25 new COVID-19 cases, while no new deaths were recorded.

In an update issued on Monday, Shangula said the new cases are part of 1 189 samples tested, and represent a 2.1 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 15 females and 10 males between the ages of two and 70 years.

The Omusati Region recorded the highest number of cases at 16, followed by Ohangwena with five, Kunene with two, while Oshana and Hardap recorded one case each.

Among the confirmed cases are 17 learners from different schools and two teachers.

None of the new cases are vaccinated.

Namibia on Sunday had 840 active cases, of which 50 were hospitalised and no one is admitted in intensive care.

A total number of 65 new recoveries were also announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 124 447.

A cumulative number of 315 645 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Sunday, of which 46 190 received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, translating to 201 108 people being fully vaccinated.
