COVID-19: Namibia records 27 cases, one death

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, announced that Namibia on Thursday recorded 27 COVID-19 cases and one death, bringing total deaths in the country to 4 007.

In the daily update issued on Friday, Shangula said the cases form part of 1 241 results and represented a 2.5 per cent positivity ratio. Of the cases, 27 are new and two are reinfections. The sex distribution of the new cases is 15 females and 12 males aged between seven months and 83 years.

The Khomas Region recorded the highest number of cases at 12, followed by Erongo with four, Oshikoto four, Zambezi three, Otjozondjupa two, while Ohangwena and Omaheke recorded one case each.

Among the confirmed cases are five learners, one healthcare worker and one student.

Shangula further reported 17 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 152 652.

The number of active cases on Thursday stood at 2 534, of which 24 were hospitalised and two were admitted to intensive care units (ICU). Two cases in hospital are fully vaccinated, and none of the cases in ICU are vaccinated.

The minister also reported that by 23 February 2022, a total 431 622 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 123 418 had received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. A total 9 663 are children aged between 12 and 17 years.

A total of 249 007 people have received two doses, thus 372 425 people had completed their vaccination, translating to 25.3 per cent of the targeted population. Meanwhile, 26 399 people have received booster shots.
