COVID-19: Namibia records 33 new cases and three deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has announced that Namibia on Tuesday recorded 33 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 3 520.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update on Wednesday, said the new cases represented a 2.5 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 17 females and 16 males between the ages of one and 75 years.

Omusati Region recorded the highest number of cases at 10, followed by Oshana with five, Khomas five, Zambezi four, ||Kharas four, Erongo two, Kavango East two and Ohangwena one.

Of the confirmed cases, 11 are learners, of which six are from Ombuumbu Combined School in the Outapi district and the rest are from different schools. One teacher and one student are also reported among the cases, and only two cases had received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while a further two cases were fully vaccinated.

Namibia on Tuesday had 1 175 active cases, of which 70 were hospitalised and 11 were in intensive care units.

A further 58 recoveries were announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 123 249.

A cumulative number of 276 431 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Tuesday, while 177 397 had been fully vaccinated.
