COVID-19: Namibia records 51 new cases, one death

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has announced that Namibia on Sunday recorded 51 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and one death, bringing the total number of deaths nationally to 3 436.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update on Monday, said the newly confirmed cases are part of 996 samples tested at various laboratories around the country, representing a 5.1 per cent positivity ratio.

Shangula said of the new reported cases, 20 are learners with six from Orumana Primary School and five from Kaoko-tavi Combined School from the Opuwo district, while the rest are from different schools. There were also six teachers and one student, and only two of the confirmed cases had received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while one person was fully vaccinated.

By Sunday, Namibia had 1 477 active cases, of which 149 were hospitalised and 19 in intensive care units.

Furthermore, 43 new recoveries were announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 121 416.

A cumulative number of 231 283 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Sunday, while 141 295 had been fully vaccinated.
