COVID-19: Namibia records 62 cases

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced that Namibia on Friday recorded 62 COVID-19 cases and no deaths, with total deaths remaining at 4 007.

In the daily update issued on Saturday, Shangula said the cases formed part of 1 810 results and represented a 3.4 per cent positivity ratio. Of the cases, 60 are new and two are reinfections. The sex distribution of the new cases is 33 females and 27 males aged between 12 months and 99 years.

The Omaheke Region recorded the highest number of cases at 35, followed by Otjozondjupa with eight, Khomas and Erongo five each, Omusati three, Kunene two while Oshana and Ohangwena recorded one case each.

Among the confirmed cases are 15 learners, of which 11 are from Drimiopsis Primary School in the Gobabis district, and two students.

Shangula further reported 28 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 152 680.

The number of active cases on Friday stood at 2 568, of which 21 were hospitalised and two cases in hospital are fully vaccinated.

The minister also reported that by 24 February 2022, a total 432 299 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 123 901 had received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. A total 9 860 are children aged between 12 and 17 years.

A total of 249 213 people have received two doses, thus 373 114 people had completed their vaccination, translating to 25.3 per cent of the targeted population. Meanwhile, 26 971 people have received booster shots.
