COVID-19: Namibia records seven new cases, one death

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, announced that Namibia on Wednesday recorded seven new Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and one death, bringing the total deaths in the country to 3 572.

In an update issued on Thursday, Shangula said the new cases are part of 1 288 tested samples, representing a 0.5 per cent positivity ratio and had a gender distribution of five males and two females aged between five and 48 years.

The Khomas Region recorded the highest number of cases at four, followed by Hardap with two, while ||Kharas recorded one.

Of the confirmed cases is one learner and one vaccinated individual.

Namibia on Wednesday had 87 active cases, of which ten were hospitalised and one person was admitted to an intensive care unit.

Four people were reported to have recovered in Omusati, Zambezi and Khomas regions, bringing the total number of recoveries to 125 462 by Wednesday.

The minister also reported that a cumulative 360 371 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Tuesday, of which 75 520 had received the single dose Janssen & Johnson vaccine, while 225 113 people had received two doses. A total of 300 633 people had therefore completed their vaccination.
