Windhoek: The Road Fund Administration's (RFA) recently launched digital platforms will help ensure Namibia maintains its status of having some of the best roads globally, RFA Executive of Information and Communication Technology, Dennis Shindume has said. Speaking during a government information-sharing session here, Shindume said the systems will help ensure efficient collection of funds from road users and channel the money towards maintaining the country's roads in peak condition.According to Namibia Press Agency, Shindume highlighted the importance of these digital platforms in ensuring the efficient collection of funds. "With the digital platforms that are launched, we would be able to ensure that there's efficiency in collecting some of these funds so that we can channel those funds through to the road and ensure that we maintain that status of being some of the best roads in Namibia," he said.Shindume said the RFA also envisions using data collected through the systems to support informed funding decisions in the road sector. "With that vision in mind, we want to ensure that with the data we collect through our systems, RFA will be able to do predictive analysis to ensure that we're optimally funding the road sector," he said.According to the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Quality of Road Infrastructure Report for 2019, Namibia's road infrastructure quality was ranked highest in Africa, scoring 5.2 out of seven while South Africa and Rwanda both scored 5.0. "We are considered as one of the countries with the best roads in the world. I think that status comes with quite a lot of work that we need to do," Shindume added. The newly launched platforms include the Fuel Levy Refund portal, the Cross-Border Charges (CBC) portal, also known as entry fees for all foreign-registered vehicles entering Namibia, and the RFA mobile app, which offers mass distance clients access to RFA services without having to visit RFA offices. Another platform is the company's modernised and interactive website, which the execu tive noted will feature chatbots that permit customers to communicate with the RFA instantly."Part of the broader context and we want to ask the public out there - let's embrace digital innovations as it's transforming us," Shindume said. The digital platforms aim to streamline processes and improve the efficiency of road fund collection, ultimately leading to better maintenance and enhancement of Namibia's road infrastructure. The annual International Day of the African Child was themed 'Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa.'ess/CT#
