The completion of the police station at Swakopmund ‘ s DRC informal settlement is scheduled for January 2025 . Construction , which commenced in July this year , is currently at 46 per cent completion . Funded solely by R ö ssing Uranium , the project is valued at over N . dollars 20 million and is being built on land donated by the Municipality of Swakopmund . The state – of – the – art facility will include several essential features , such as four holding cells with exercise courtyards , an interrogation room , a doctor ‘ s consultation room , an evidence room , and multiple offices , including one for the Station Commander . Additional amenities include ablution facilities , a staff kitchen , and a server / radio room . In a joint media statement issued on Monday , R ö ssing Uranium ‘ s Manager for Corporate Communication , Daylight Ekandjo , confirmed that the construction remains on schedule and within the planned scope . ‘ The station ‘ s substructure has been completed , and the main structure is 70
per cent complete as of mid – October . The team is currently working on the reinforced concrete roofs , which will pave the way for final touches before the station is handed over to the community ,’ Ekandjo said . Swakopmund Municipality Chief Executive Officer , Archie Benjamin , highlighted the significance of the station in addressing safety concerns in the expanding town , particularly within the informal settlement . ‘ This project complements the municipality ‘ s capital projects , particularly those aimed at providing affordable housing . We are grateful to R ö ssing and Nampol for their contributions to enhancing safety in Swakopmund ,’ he noted . Namibian Police Force ‘ s Erongo Police Commander , Commissioner Nikolaus Kupembona , expressed his admiration for the rapid progress of the project and the dedication shown by R ö ssing Uranium , emphasising that the new police station would serve as a model for future national projects in terms of timely delivery . ‘ I commend R ö ssing Uranium for their
commitment . The community is eager for the station to open , and we are prepared to deploy trained personnel to ensure the safety and security of the DRC population ,’ Kupembona said . To date , the project has employed over 100 workers , with no safety incidents reported during the construction process .
