Windhoek: The 40-year-old human resource practitioner in the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Emiriha Haikela, who was arrested on charges of bribery, was denied bail in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Haikela appeared in court last week Thursday. He is implicated in a job-for-payment scheme within the ministry and was arrested last Wednesday.

It is alleged that Haikela, who was stationed in the Khomas Region, solicited a bribe of N.dollars 11 000 to secure employment for a candidate for a chief hostel matron position. Allegations stated that the accused provided the candidate with interview questions and supporting documents in advance to improve their chances of success. Investigations further revealed that the candidate was ultimately appointed to the position.

The ACC alleges that payments totaling N.dollars 10 000 were made to the suspect in installments. An initial payment of N.dollars 4 000 was reportedly made before the interview, with the remaining balance paid in portions after the candidate secured employment.
