The Khomas Basketball Association (KBA) has lined up exciting final fixtures for the weekend which will conclude the first phase of the 2021 season.

The fixtures were released by the KBA on Tuesday.

This weekend’s final will see the University of Namibia (UNAM) Sparks clash with their rivals UNAM Cats in the Women’s Premier Finals at the university’s gymnasium on Sunday.

That match will be followed by the Men’s Premier Finals where UNAM Wolves, who have been dominant for the past two seasons, will clash against Tomahawks in what is expected to be a cracking match.

The curtain raiser matches will see Tsumeb Titans play UNAM Raiders in the men’s first division finals, while there will be the only third and fourth place match of the series between TBA Silverswords against Legends in the women’s premier league.

KBA could not host the basketball season in a regular format because of the COVID-19 lockdown regulations, hence they are now hosting the league in three phases. The first phase kicked off in mid-September after the government relaxed the COVID-19 regulations by allowing contact sport to resume.

Prior to the finals, a lot of exciting matches took place with the semi-finals producing some close call results.

Wolves, who finished second during the round-robin stages beat UNAM Rebels who were third by a 94-91 scoreline.

Tomahawks topped the men’s round-robin stages beating TBA Blackswords 94-87 in the semi-finals, while in the women’s competition UNAM Cats defeated TBA Silverswords 55-53 in the semi-finals and Sparks defeated Legends 66-52.

Phase two of the season is expected to resume immediately after the tournament with fixtures and dates set to be released early next week.

Winning teams will receive medals and prize money generated from the clubs’ registration fees as the league is currently operating without a sponsor.

Meanwhile the Namibia Basketball Federation also revealed the fixtures for the school 2021 finals scheduled for various schools on Friday and Saturday.

Deutsche Höhere Privatschule will host the majority of these finals from the under-14 to under-19 boys and girls on Saturday.
