FIBA Unveils Groups for 2026 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers

Berlin: The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced the draw for the qualifying tournaments for the 2026 Women's World Cup, which is set to take place in Germany. The draw revealed the groups that will compete in various locations worldwide to secure their spots in the prestigious tournament.

According to Namibia Press Agency, defending champion the United States is grouped with Spain and Italy in the tournament that will be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Meanwhile, the runner-up from the previous championship, China, will host its qualifying matches in Wuhan, where it will face Belgium and Brazil among others.

The other two qualifying tournaments are scheduled to take place in Lyon-Villeurbanne, France, and Istanbul, Trkiye, from March 11 to 17, 2026. These locations will see teams from across the globe battling for a position in the final tournament.

The main event, the Women's World Cup, is set to occur from September 4 to 13, 2026, in Berlin, Germany, featuring 16 teams vying for the title. The draw was conducted by Germany national team player Marie Guelich and former France national team captain Endy Miyem.

The full draw includes the following groups:

In Wuhan, China: Mali, South Sudan, Brazil, Belgium, Czech Republic, China.

In Lyon-Villeurbanne, France: Colombia, Philippines, Germany, South Korea, France, Nigeria.

In San Juan, Puerto Rico: New Zealand, Puerto Rico, United States, Senegal, Italy, Spain.

In Istanbul, Trkiye: Hungary, Trkiye, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Japan.
