Five residents of Okahandja were arrested on Monday after they allegedly killed a man whom they accused of theft.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Tuesday said the suspects involve three women and two men from the Nau-Aib residential area.

They are aged 20, 24, 27, 33 and 38 years.

Mbeha said it is alleged that the deceased was seen walking out of a cucashop with N.dollars 120 and immediately started running when several community members chased after him.

“After he was caught a few metres from the cucashop, they brought him back to the shop while they were interrogating him and he then gave back the N.dollars 120 to the suspects,” Mbeha said.

This allegedly angered them more and they started to slap, punch and kick him, she added.

The victim collapsed and died on the scene.

Mbeha said no identity documents were found on the man and he is thus yet to be identified.

The five suspects are expected to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court this week and police investigations continue.
