Geingob accords late Ouseb an official funeral

President Hage Geingob has accorded the late veteran, Accotty Julius Ouseb the honour of an official funeral.

According to a media statement issued by the Presidency on Friday, the president through the authority granted to him by Article 32 (3) (h) of the Namibian Constitution, and Section 3 (1) of the Conferment of National Honours Act, 2012 (Act No. 11 of 2012) bestowed the honour of an official funeral on the late Ouseb.

Ouseb was born 22 February 1946 and died 29 March 2022. He was 76 years old.

The late veteran’s remains will be interred at a date and location to be determined in consultation with the family, said the statement.

It noted that Ouseb was a freedom fighter and veteran of the liberation struggle, and that he, along with his comrades and through his artistic work, took part in various uprisings against apartheid in 1978, in the lead up to Namibia’s independence.

“Comrade Ouseb was elected and served as the Swapo Windhoek branch’s secretary for culture. He will be remembered for his contribution to the country’s independence struggle,” the statement said.

President Geingob went on to describe the late veteran as a fearless, dependable and committed freedom fighter who dedicated his youth to Namibia’s liberation struggle.
